Elders In Action’s Elder Friendly® Business Certification is now Age Friendly
A new look, a new name and our continued commitment to our aging population
A Better Way for Businesses to Serve Older Adults
Elders In Action’s Age Friendly Certification helps businesses better serve older customers through Elders In Action’s nationally recognized standard of service. Each organization is evaluated by volunteers and provided feedback on how they can best serve the older customer. In this video advertisement, ShowMePortland.TV Presenter, Jessica, and two Elders In Actions volunteers visit two Portland businesses—New Seasons Market and Portland Nursery, to see how they’ve attained Age Friendly certification.
New Seasons Market
New Seasons Market has implemented a wide range of senior-friendly features, including sitting areas, wider aisles, and lowering produce bags for easier senior access. It is important to New Season’s Market to earn the certification and it is important to seniors, too. As Elder’s In Action volunteer Sue says, “When the aisles are wide enough, when the labels are readable, when the salespeople are friendly and helpful, then that word is communicated from one elder to another. It’s a marketing tool for the stores, but it’s a community service for the elders.”
Portland Nursery
Elders are a very important part of Portland Nursery’s community commitment. The steps they’ve taken to achieve Age Friendly Certification include widening their aisles to at least three feet, lowering display tables, and implementing brochures for easy information access.
